Presenter: Tammy Hardie
Tammy became an instructor at BCIT in 2012 and is currently the Simulation Coordinator providing support to the Medical Lab Sciences and Allied Health portfolios. In this role, she collaborates with other Sim Educators in the SoHS to promote best practices in the design, development, implementation, and assessment of Simulation Learning Experiences. She supports colleagues in the design and delivery of Faculty Development workshops that are part of BCIT SoHS Sim Path. Tammy is an educator of nearly 20 years, who has more recently discovered a penchant for Simulation. She is enthusiastic about fostering a culture of curiosity, collaboration, creativity, growth, and innovation. Her dedication is evident in the work she does, and she views this through the lens of legacy-- training future Medical Laboratory Technologists and other health care professionals for the well-being of those who live in our communities.
Ms. Hardie graduated as an MLT in 1989 from Red River College and completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Canadian Literature and Native Studies graduating with Distinction from the University of Manitoba in 2005. She has a Certificate in Adult Education and many hours of professional development in a wide range of subject areas. Over the course of her career, she has been an active volunteer—locally, provincially, federally, and internationally—both in a professional capacity and at a grassroots level. She is especially proud of her work in El Salvador as the Field Diagnostics Supervisor and eventually Director on the board of the Flying Doctors of Canada. She maintains “street cred” with students by working locums in remote communities in northern BC.
As you can see, she has many passions in life and BCIT has provided her with an excellent environment to embrace all of these and discover more!
