The BCIT ZEB Learning House was developed to illustrate construction approaches and principles needed for success with the BC Energy Step Code. The House was designed to support learning by:
Incorporating design elements that create challenges for achieving the Thermal Energy Demand Intensity (TEDI) and airtightness (ACH50) metrics.
Comparing assembly designs and highlighting the need for strong quality control and construction coordination.
Illustrating effective ventilation design, installation, and verification using an operational direct-ducted Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) system.
Note: The house is a mobile teaching module that rests on a steel base. It does not have a below-grade section although it does simulate a top-of-concrete foundation wall.
